This is the final proyect I did for the Concept art and illustration course from MasterD. I was tasked to create the concept for a protagonist, an athropomorphic secondary character, some props and a enviroment illustration. It had to be in the theme of Feudal Japan but it could have fantasy or science-fiction traits too. I chose to add some fantasy in it so I could benefit from the pre-existing myths and mythological creatures from the actuan feudal Japan. I did my reserch and came with the ideas you see here. I chose a middle aged woman as a protagonist, instead of the typical Japanese man we've already seen plenty and worked on the fact that women were fighters too; They were called "Onna-Bugeishas". Even if they could not be samurais or anything of sort they where tasked to defend and protect the villages they were in during war. Then we have added the idea of mixing the concept of a sacred and mystical tree, this being the one who grants, in this case, a prosthetic arm made from magical roots of the tree itself. Our protagonist's goal is to avenge the death of her husband and her village, thus embarking on a path of survival, conflict and reflection.
All this creates a narrative that, although it is based on a theme that we have seen lately in video games and movies on a recurring basis and that could be tiresome, takes a different direction with a different approach and particular abilities that could make a complete development and gameplay something very interesting and new.
